Never Stop Learning

My son John had a passion for learning. I'll never forget the summer he decided to do a catch up home school course in math so he wouldn't be behind the rest of his class when he went to boarding school that fall. How I admired his self-discipline and his ability to stick with it and get it finished before the summer was over. He could have done so many other things that were fun - and he did, but never instead of doing his studies. He was the ideal home school parent's dream child.

I thought about that today as my daughter and I have taken on the challenge of attending a child rearing class together since we are jointly rearing and training my grandson. I read through the first lesson this morning in preparation for the class, DVD presentation and discussion on Friday evening.

What are you doing to "never stop learning?"

  1. I find it more fun learning things now than I did when I was younger.

  3. Hi Sharon. It seems the older I get, the more I learn. I'm learning about blogging and Twittering. I'd love to learn more about building websites. And the books I'm writing now are tech books, so I'm learning about biomedical equipment, automotive technology and avionics.

    Learning rocks!

  5. Hello. I heard you on Christine's show. I would like to know more about your missionary work as that is my calling as well. Please email me: wrwthefirst@yahoo.com.

I worked in Yellowstone Park briefly and journeyed there myself from Ohio. I love cowgirls.

  6. I applaud you for the "joint rearing" - Grandparents raising Grandkids seems to be more and more a necessity this day and age, sigh ...

My mother always said, "The good Lord knew what he was doing when he decided to give children to the young generation."

True dat - but it's not working anymore!

  7. What a great opportunity to learn and share with your daughter in raising your grandson! I agree we should never stop learning. I started writing poetry when I was almost 50 and discovered God's purpose for me in this time of my life. There is so much to learn, and the older we get, the more we realize we don't know!

  8. Thanks for all the comments. I have heard it said that it's "what you don't know that you don't know" that can cause you problems. We can learn what we KNOW we don't know but if we don't know we don't know it...I personally have a lot of things in that category that I now say, "If only I had known that!"
